The entire City of Boyd has been placed under a boil order after a water system malfunction.

Water pressure fell below 20 per square inch (psi), the city said in a news release. Normal water pressure is between 30 and 80.

The city told The Dallas Express that the order remained in effect as of 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the city to notify customers to boil their water before consumption, including drinking and washing.

“Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions,” the city said.

“To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice-making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.  The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes,” the news release continued.

The city said buying bottled water was an alternative to boiling.

“When it is no longer necessary to boil water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes,” the city said.

The city encouraged residents to share the information with anyone who might drink the water.
