American Airlines will now charge basic economy passengers to check any bags on domestic flights.

The Fort Worth-based airline allowed one checked bag before the change.

The first bag will cost $75, the airline said.

“We are simplifying our product offerings to make it easier for customers when they are shopping for travel,” Andrea Koos, an American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement to USA Today. “With this change, our Basic Economy product will include all of the same features whether a customer is purchasing it for a domestic or international flight.”

American already was charging $75 on international flights.

Competitors such as Delta and United charge for the first bag on international flights but not for domestic.
