The City of Allen is moving forward with plans for Market Street Allen USA, just weeks after the mass shooting at a local outlet mall, but this year’s event will include enhanced security measures.

The summer festival, an annual event since 1995, is scheduled for June 24 at Celebration Park. The event will include a number of activities, including live music, food trucks, and a fireworks show. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 10 p.m.

The musical performances kick off at 6:30 p.m. with the opening act, Audacity, performing on the CoServ Main Stage, followed by the headlining group Emerald City Band.

Festival-goers are encouraged to spread out their picnic blankets on the grass and relax to the music while enjoying their favorite foods from the food truck vendors. This year’s vendors include Smokey Joe’s BBQ, Boardwalk Bites, Conway Corndogs, Oopsie Scoopsie, TC Roasted Corn, Market Street, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, and many more.

The finale of the evening is the fireworks show produced by the award-winning professional fireworks company Pyrotecnico.

“Market Street Allen USA features one of the largest, most spectacular fireworks displays in North Texas,” the city said on its website. “Prepare yourself to be wowed by this beautiful display, synced to a combination of patriotic tunes and popular favorites.”

Celebrants can sign up in advance to receive text alerts with information on event changes, weather updates, and other relevant information.

To alleviate safety concerns, the City of Allen is upping security measures at this year’s festival.

“These efforts will include site fencing with secure entry and exit points, ground lighting for the duration of the event, enhanced police presence, and added security,” states the City website.

The Allen community was recently shaken by a mass shooting at Allen Premium Outlets on May 6, when a gunman killed eight shoppers and wounded seven others before being neutralized by a police officer, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
