Sarah Weinberg and Zarin Gracey won their respective runoff elections in Dallas on June 10.
DALLAS ISD BOARD, DISTRICT 2
Weinberg earned a seat on the Dallas Independent School District board, prevailing over Jimmy Tran in District 2 with 53% of the vote. In total, 4,251 cast their ballots for Weinberg, while 3,738 supported Tran.
Tran actually received more votes on election day than his opponent, but Weinberg had achieved an unsurmountable margin during early voting.
Weinberg previously outlined her campaign to The Dallas Express, explaining, “My priorities include improving student outcomes, ensuring school safety, attracting and retaining great teachers, engaging with parents and the community and being a strong fiscal steward for our taxpayer [money].”
“To improve student outcomes, the district must successfully implement the use of high-quality instructional materials so that teachers have access to consistent and rigorous literacy and math curricula and the needed training to be able to ably deliver instruction using it,” Weinberg added.
Former board member Dustin Marshall decided not to run for reelection, endorsed Weinberg, and contributed $25,000 to her campaign. He served seven years on the board.
As of April, Weinberg’s campaign finance report said $312,00 had been donated to her effort.
DISD is the state’s second-largest school district.
DALLAS COUNCIL DISTRICT 3
In another high-profile race, Zarin Gracey won Saturday’s Dallas City Council District 3 runoff over Joe Tave.
The minister and former city commissioner finished with 62.6% of the vote, soundly defeating Tave. The final vote count was 1,036-636.
Gracey will succeed term-limited Council Member Casey Thomas, who endorsed Gracey for the position.
Issues highlighted by Gracey during his campaign included public safety, economic development, and housing.
“D3 has the land and ability to meet all our housing needs, but we need to be more strategic on how we approach that,” Gracey previously said at an event attended by The Dallas Express.

— Cedar Hill Council 6: Maranda Auzenne 857 (66%), Bertha Middlebrooks 442 (34%).
— Fort Worth Council 11: Jeanette Martinez 1,528 (59%), Rick Herring 1,058 (41%).
— Fort Worth ISD 5: Kevin Lynch 1,627 (61%), Carin ‘CJ’ Evans 1,031 (39%).
— Grand Prairie Council 7: Bessye Adams 2,095 (51%), Jeff Copeland 2,028 (49%).
— Anna City Council 3: Stan Carver II 277 (54%), Kelly Herndon 240 (46%).
— Collin County Community College 2: Jay Saad 15,434 (56%), Scott Coleman 12,367 (44%).
— Collin County Community College 3: Cathie Alexander 15,597 (56%), Stacey Donald 12,225 (44%).
