The warring factions in Sudan, who’ve created a humanitarian crisis in the African nation with their civil war, have agreed to a 24-hour cease-fire, it was announced Friday.

The U.S. and Saudi Arabia negotiated the deal to allow the passage of humanitarian aid.

“Saudi Arabia and the U.S. join the Sudanese people in their frustration over the non-commitment of the previous truces,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry tweeted.

Sudan’s government has become hostile in recent days to United Nations’ (U.N.) efforts to stop the fighting. The government declared Volker Perthes, the special representative of the U.N. in Sudan and head of the U.N. Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) as “persona non grata.”

“Neither side has yet shown the ability to decisively claim a military victory,” Perthes told the U.N. General Assembly earlier this week.
