Violence related to a planned police training facility near Atlanta led Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to declare a state of emergency in January.
Five months later, three people connected to protests at the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center have been arrested for money laundering and charity fraud.
Charged were Marlon Scott Kautz, 39, of Atlanta; Savannah D. Patterson, 30, of Savannah, GA; and Adele Maclean, 42, of Atlanta.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrests in conjunction with the Atlanta Police Department.
“Today’s arrests are about the violence that occurred at the site of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Center and elsewhere,” Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said in a statement. “As we have said before, we will not rest until we have held accountable every person who has funded, organized, or participated in this violence and intimidation.”
In January, Carr said outsiders were stirring up the violence, which led him to warn: “We are not Oregon. We are not California. We are not Washington. You cannot come to our state, break our laws, throw rocks at buildings, damage property, and shoot police officers. You can, and you will be charged, and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Kemp said: “Georgians respect peaceful protests, but do not tolerate acts of violence against persons or property.”
