Multiple railroad crossings near downtown Arlington were closed on Tuesday morning after a pedestrian was struck by a train, the Arlington Police Department told The Dallas Express.
The man was killed around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday as he was walking along the railroad tracks, according to police, who confirmed that he died at the scene.
Officers had to close multiple railroad crossings, and as a result, motorists were asked to drive to other streets, such as Collins Street or Fielder Road and Bowen Road, to travel north and south.
The crossings that were closed down were crossings from Davis Street to Mesquite.
“There is HEAVY traffic on West Street. We do not currently have [an] estimate for when the crossings will be reopened,” a post read on the department’s Twitter account.
The Dallas Express spoke to APD Spokesperson Tim Ciesco, who provided additional details.
“We do not know why the man was walking along the tracks,” Ciesco said.
“The man did not have any identification on him, and so it will be the medical examiner’s Office it will be their job now to positively identify him,” Ciesco added.
Arlington Police were investigating Tuesday morning.
The roads have been cleared, and regular traffic has resumed.
