A few Dallas breweries emerged victorious from this year’s highly competitive World Beer Cup competition, beating out over 10,000 other entries from breweries worldwide.
The Brewers Association assembled 272 judges from 26 countries to evaluate 103 distinct beer styles in this year’s World Beer Cup, determining gold, silver, and bronze winners in each category.
The 2023 contest showcased exceptional craftsmanship and creativity, with two Dallas-based breweries securing top spots among the fierce global competition. White Rock Alehouse & Brewery and Peticolas Brewing Co. represented the city.
White Rock Alehouse & Brewery’s “Big Thicket” ale secured an impressive second-place victory in the Golden or Blonde Ale category. The Big Thicket ale was praised by the judges for its balance, aroma, and smooth finish.
A prominent player in the Dallas beer scene, White Rock Alehouse & Brewery is located on Gaston Avenue near White Rock Lake.
Peticolas Brewing Co., known for pushing boundaries and exploring new flavor profiles, secured a commendable third-place position in the highly competitive Belgian Fruit Beer category with their “Turtle Kriek” beer. The judges singled out Turtle Kriek for its harmonious blend of fruity notes and traditional Belgian brewing techniques.
Peticolas Brewing Co.’s three-story flagship taproom is located on Pace Street in the Design District.
Beyond Dallas too, a flourishing beer culture is growing across much of North Texas.
The City of Anna recently announced an agreement with 3 Nations Brewing Co., paving the way for an outpost of the esteemed Carrollton-based brewery. This partnership aims to celebrate the rich traditions of craft beer, as the brewery prides itself on combining cutting-edge American techniques with old-school European styles.
Additionally, Frisco has successfully attracted Rollertown Beerworks’ headquarters to help anchor its downtown.
This year’s World Beer Cup saw a staggering 10,213 beers submitted by 2,376 breweries hailing from 51 countries. The event is held annually alongside the Craft Brewers Conference and BrewExpo America.
