New details have emerged about the aggravated sexual assault of a child allegedly committed by a Dallas County man earlier this month.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, 34-year-old William Rex Beckham was arrested for the alleged crime on Thursday after the Dallas Police Department’s Child Exploitation Unit received a tip about a child that had been sexually assaulted.

According to the probable cause affidavit associated with Beckham’s criminal case, the incident occurred in an empty parking lot at 3600 Esters Rd., the address for a local church in Irving.

The victim was a 13-year-old boy who told police that a man driving a black sedan offered him a ride to Walmart so the boy could purchase a beverage. The boy got in the car. Instead of heading to Walmart, the man, whom the boy would later identify as Beckham, allegedly took the victim to the parking lot and began smoking marijuana.

Beckham then allegedly brandished a firearm and pointed it at the boy. He then sexually assaulted him in the car.

The affidavit states that the suspect facilitated the exchange of oral sex and sodomized the victim.

Beckham then allegedly drove the boy home and threatened him to keep quiet about the incident, “causing the victim to be fearful of serious bodily injury or death.”

The boy gave police a detailed description of the suspect, noting the man’s various tattoos and piercings. When presented with a photo lineup of possible suspects, the boy picked out Beckham.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Beckham was on probation at the time of his alleged offense this month, having previously been arrested in Dallas on drug and weapon charges in Council Member Chad West’s District 1 back in 2021.

The City of Dallas has logged 202 sex-related offenses as of May 2 of this year, according to its crime analytics dashboard. Crime data is currently not up to date as the City works to recover from the ransomware attack it suffered earlier this month.
