SEAGOVILLE — A gunman was taken into custody on Monday after allegedly firing shots at Seagoville police.

Police Chief Ray Calverley said the suspect had a high-caliber hunting rifle.

When officers arrived on the scene around 11 a.m. Monday, they heard shots, the chief said, and SWAT was called.

The suspect barricaded himself in a home near Modene Street.

After firing tear gas, the suspect came out and was arrested, Calverley said.

No one was injured, he said.

1:30 p.m. Monday

Seagoville police and other law enforcement agencies have blocked off an area in town after reports of shots fired at police.

The Dallas Express was on the scene and was told a suspected gunman was barricaded in a residence. He was surrounded by law enforcement.

Modene Street in Seagoville was filled with barricades as tactical units and police negotiators tried to secure the scene.

The situation was still active as of 1:30 p.m.

Police arrived at 301 Modene St. around 11 a.m., Seagoville police said.

Seagoville is in southeastern Dallas County, around 20 minutes from downtown Dallas.
