Dallas has become one of the hottest tech markets for job seekers in the United States.
Dallas had the third most tech job postings in April, behind just Washington D.C. and New York City, according to CompTIA’s Tech Jobs Report.
Dallas also saw the biggest month-over-month increase from March to April, with 875 new job postings added, with 12,479 overall, more than Houston and Austin combined.
Los Angeles and Chicago trailed close behind Dallas, each with over 10,000 job postings. By the eighth-ranked city, however, numbers fall below 6,000–less than half of what Dallas is seeing.
California beat out Texas as the state with the most tech job postings, with 34,004. Texas came in second with 26,780.
In April, the tech sector increased jobs by 18,795, the biggest increase since August 2022, according to the report, with the biggest gains coming from technology infrastructure, manufacturing, and service workers.
The national unemployment rate is 3.4%, while the tech sector’s unemployment rate sits at 2.3%.
“It was another all-too-familiar month of mixed labor market signals,” Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA, said in a press release for the report.
“The surprisingly strong tech sector employment gains were offset by the pause in tech hiring across the economy.”
Texas was also the No.2 state for artificial intelligence job postings, with 1,542 in April. The state reached No.4 in remote tech job postings at 2,196 jobs.
Across the U.S., the top 5 industries for tech job postings in April were professional, scientific, and technical services with 78,658 postings; administrative and support with 32,861 postings; finance and insurance with 32,820 postings; manufacturing with 31,959 postings; and information with 15,159 postings, according to the report.
CompTIA’s Tech Jobs Report provides a monthly snapshot of information technology (IT) employment trending at the occupation and industry levels. CompTIA’s report coincides with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation monthly labor market release. The analysis includes historical trending, employer hiring activity at the state and metro area level, unemployment rates, employer demand for emerging tech skills, and more.
