Boutique wine and spirits store Bar & Garden is relocating from its current location on Ross Avenue to a smaller and more-suitable shop in East Dallas.
Bar & Garden is a small-batch spirits and wine store known for its large selection of 100% natural and organic wines. The shop also carries a variety of other goods, including plants, gifts, and barware.
In 2017, business partners Julie Buckner and Jeff Fritz opened the first Bar & Garden store at 3314 Ross Ave. in Dallas. Now the two business partners are finally ready to see how their business fares at their new store at 1900 N. Haskell Avenue in East Dallas.
Buckner and Fritz had originally announced plans to relocate to the proposed two-story building in 2021, with a tentative move-in date scheduled for summer 2022. However, permitting delays from the City of Dallas forced the partners to extend their property lease until 2023.
“Dealing with the city has been problematic, to say the least,” Buckner told The Dallas Express via email. “We are working to get the proper permitting in place and have been for a while now,” she said.
While Dallas’ building permit department — the Development Services Department (DSD) – has tried to improve the residential side of permitting, the commercial side under Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax has continued to disappoint and frustrate the community, with developers still reporting long permitting cycles.
Although Bar & Garden’s lease on the original property ends in June, an official date for the grand opening at 1900 N. Haskell Ave. is still in the air.
“We are going to restore the building to its original glory with retail on the bottom floor and offices on top and ample parking in the back for both,” Buckner said in a press release sent to The Dallas Express. “We don’t have a re-opening date yet, but you will be the first to know when we are ready to open our doors to you.”
Buckner and Fritz say they plan for the new location to be just as relaxing and inviting as the brand’s original location, ultimately evoking a sense of “kindness and serenity” among patrons of the Dallas-based wine and spirit store.
Bar & Garden will continue hosting its weekly Saturday tastings from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. each Saturday until the store finally closes sometime in June.
