Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in South Texas partnered to close two Laredo stash houses being used to traffic unlawful migrants from Mexico to the United States.

Border Patrol agents from the Laredo North and Laredo South U.S. Customs and Border Patrol stations arrived at two stash houses with Webb County Constables Precinct 2 and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Tuesday and found dozens of unlawful migrants in the houses.

After entering both of the homes, Border Patrol agents detained 43 unlawful migrants hiding inside.

Record checks revealed that the unlawful migrants were from a host of countries in Central America. All those present were from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, or Guatemala. The unlawful migrants were taken into custody before being processed.

Illegal stash house closures are becoming more and more common, and over 140 unlawful migrants were recently detained at stash houses in El Paso just three weeks ago.

Border Patrol’s work to stem unlawful migration has remained a political flashpoint, the Biden administration and Department of Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas have been blamed for record-shattering unlawful entries into the U.S. across the southern border. Critics say that relaxed enforcement standards present an invitation for drug cartels to traffic narcotics and migrants across the border.

Secretary Mayorkas, however, has pointed to larger immigration trends and Congress’ inability to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Border Patrol’s employee union, the National Border Patrol Council, agrees with the critics of Mayorkas’ reign at Homeland Security.

In a tweet, the National Border Patrol Council blasted Mayorkas as a propagandist and highlighted the steep increase of unlawful migrants who have been arrested at the border.
