There was plenty of pro sports action throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex this weekend. Here is what happened on the ice, on the field, and behind the scenes.

NHL
Dallas Stars (win series, 4-2)
Last Game: Stars 4, Minnesota Wild 1

The Stars advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs with a Game 6 win on Friday night in Minnesota. Mason Marchment’s second-period goal narrowly beat the buzzer and gave Dallas a 3-0 lead. The Stars fought off the Wild’s last efforts, and Max Domi stole the puck and scored on an empty net to clinch the series.

Noteworthy: The Stars won the series, 4-2, and advanced to play the Seattle Kraken in the next round. Dallas has now played two playoff series against Minnesota and won each in six games.

This is the first time the Stars have advanced past the first round since they reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.

MLB
Texas Rangers (17-11, first in American League West)
Last Games: Rangers 5, New York Yankees 2; Rangers 2, Yankees 0; Rangers 15, Yankees 2

The Rangers won the final three games of a four-game set against the Yankees. Texas held on for a 5-2 win on Friday, Nathan Eovaldi pitched a three-hit shutout on Saturday, and the offense exploded for 15 runs on Sunday behind home runs from Josh Jung, Nathaniel Lowe, and Adolis García.

Noteworthy: The Rangers finished April with 17 wins, tied for the second most in April in team history. Texas’ 17-11 record is its best start since 2013.

Jacob deGrom left Friday’s game in the top of the fourth inning and was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Eovaldi’s shutout was the team’s first at Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020. Eovaldi is also the first Texan to do so for the club since 1995.

Minor League Baseball
Frisco RoughRiders (11-10, tied first in South Division, tied third in AA Texas League)
Last Games: RoughRiders 12, Amarillo Sod Poodles 6; Sod Poodles 11, RoughRiders 4; RoughRiders 12, Sod Poodles 7

Frisco took two of the three games this weekend to earn a split in its six-game series against Amarillo. After blowing two big leads early in the series, the RoughRiders held on to early leads on Friday and Sunday, while Amarillo jumped on Jack Leiter for five runs on Saturday.

Noteworthy: Each of Frisco’s wins this season has been by at least three runs.

Leiter has been allowing runs but is fourth in the Texas League in strikeouts.

Outfielder Evan Carter is sixth in the Texas League with a .343 batting average with four home runs and 20 RBIs. Shortstop Luisangel Acuna is hitting .319 and is second in the Texas League with 10 stolen bases.

Arlington Renegades (4-6)
Last Game: Renegades 26, Houston Roughnecks 11

Arlington beat Houston for the first time in three tries this season to advance to the XFL Championship. The Renegades never trailed as wide receiver JaVonta Payton caught two early touchdown passes, and the defense held the Roughnecks to just 225 yards and their lowest point total of the season.

Noteworthy: The Renegades advance to the XFL Championship against the D.C. Defenders at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Arlington lost both its regular-season meetings with Houston.

FC Dallas (4-3-3, tied fourth in Western Conference)
Last Game: FC Dallas 0, Minnesota United FC 0

FC Dallas and Minnesota United FC played to a draw on Sunday. Goalie Maarten Paes made five saves to earn his 10th career shutout.

Noteworthy: FC Dallas moves into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with the San Jose Earthquake. The teams trail Los Angeles FC, St. Louis City FC, and the Seattle Sounders.

The scoreless draw ends an eight-game goal-scoring streak for FC Dallas.
