The Flower Mound High School marching band has been selected to perform at the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Wesley Whatley, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade creative producer, told Fox 4 News that the marching band stood out from the other candidates, setting itself “high above the rest.”
“The Flower Mound High School Marching Band consistently delivers dynamic and intricate performances with bold design and storytelling as one of the most well-rounded band programs in America,” he said.
Hundreds of marching bands applied to be a part of the parade, and only 10, including Flower Mound, were selected. The application process included recordings of their performance as well as letters of recommendation.
Brent Biskup, the director of bands at Flower Mound High School, told NBC that “just to be able to do something of this magnitude and give kids an experience like this is rare and exciting, and we’re so fortunate.”
“We’re honored and so excited to see what this all entails.”
The band was given $10,000 from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade selection committee to help cover their travel expenses.
The lineup for the 2023 parade has already been announced and will include the Bourbon County High School Marching Colonels from Paris, Kentucky, and the Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds from Carmel, Indiana. A Texas high school will be represented in the 2023 Thanksgiving parade by the Vandegrift High School Marching Band from Austin.
If the performer lineup for 2024 is anything like the one for 2023, the Flower Mound High School could be performing alongside artists like Big Time Rush, Blanco Brown, Dionne Warwick, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Paula Abdul.
Among the new floats debuting at the parade this year are the animated character Bluey, Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, a dinosaur float from Sinclair Oil Corporation, and Stuart the Minion.
