Since Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys in February 1989, the team has had 31 first-round draft picks.

Here is each first-round selection of the Jones Era.

1989- Troy Aikman
The first pick of the Jones Era turned into a franchise quarterback and Hall of Famer. Aikman spent his entire 12-year career with the Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls and throwing for almost 33,000 yards.

1990- Emmitt Smith
The Cowboys landed another Hall of Famer in 1990. Smith played 15 years in the NFL — 13 with Dallas — and retired as the league’s all-time leading rusher.

1991- Russell Maryland, DT, Miami (FL) (first overall); Alvin Harper, WR, Tennessee (12th); and Kelvin Pritchett, DT, Mississippi (20)
Maryland won three Super Bowls in his career and collected 14.5 sacks in five seasons with Dallas. Harper’s best season was in 1994, when he scored eight touchdowns, and Pritchett never played a down for the Cowboys as he was immediately traded to Detroit for draft picks that added to the 1991 class.

1992- Kevin Smith, DB, Texas A&M (17th overall) and Robert Jones, LB, East Carolina (24th)
Smith played eight seasons in Dallas, intercepting 19 passes as part of three Super Bowl winners, while Jones spent four years with the Cowboys and amassed over 300 of his 766 career tackles.

1994- Shante Carver, DE, Arizona State (23rd overall)
Carver never produced, as his career was marred with injuries, suspensions, and bizarre incidents. He was out of the NFL after the 1997 season and attempted to revive his career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), Arena Football League (AFL), and the XFL.

1997- David LaFleur, TE, LSU (22nd overall)
LaFleur caught 85 passes and 12 touchdowns during his four-year NFL career. A lengthy injury history and a failed physical led Dallas to waive him in August 2001.

1998- Greg Ellis, DE, North Carolina (eighth overall)
Ellis became a starter at defensive end and outside linebacker for 10 years, gathering 77 sacks and forcing 20 fumbles. Dallas released him after the 2008 season, and he spent the final year of his career with the Oakland Raiders.

1999- Ebenezer Ekuban, DE, North Carolina (20th overall)
Ebukan was a member of the 1999 All-Rookie team and played in 122 NFL games for Dallas, Cleveland, and Denver. Injuries derailed his stint in Dallas after a couple of promising years, and he left for Cleveland after clashing with Bill Parcells.

2002- Roy Williams, S, Texas (eighth overall)
The Cowboys took the 2001 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year with the eighth pick in the 2002 draft, and he played with the team until requesting his release in March 2009. Although he finished his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, Williams was an impact player and a leader on the backend of the Dallas defense.

2003- Terence Newman, CB, Kansas State (fifth overall)
The Cowboys picked another Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. Newman spent eight seasons as a starter for the Cowboys before moving on to the Bengals and the Minnesota Vikings. He retired in 2018.

2005- DeMarcus Ware, LB, Troy (11th overall) and Marcus Spears, DL, LSU (20th)
The Cowboys landed Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware with the 11th overall pick in 2005 and followed that with LSU’s Marcus Spears. Ware played 12 seasons with Dallas and Denver and finished with the ninth-most sacks in NFL history. Spears battled injuries but had a productive nine-year career.

2006- Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State (18th overall)
Carpenter was part of a vaunted Ohio State linebacker group that entered the NFL with lofty expectations. He spent three years as a reserve player in Dallas before bouncing around the NFL until 2012.

2007- Anthony Spencer, DE, Purdue (26th overall)
The Cowboys selected Spencer the last time they had the 26th overall pick but had to trade back up into the first round to get him. He played eight years with the Cowboys, mainly as a starter, and received the franchise tag in 2012 and 2013.

2008 – Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas (22nd overall) and Mike Jenkins, DB, South Florida (25th)
Jones was a multi-faceted back from one of the nation’s top college backfields. He made an impact in the NFL as a runner, receiver, and kick returner — amassing at least 1,100 yards in each phase. Jenkins left Dallas for Oakland after his rookie contract expired and also spent time with Tampa Bay and Arizona.

2010- Dez Bryant (24th overall)
Bryant became an elite receiver, scoring 73 touchdowns in eight years with the Cowboys. He missed the 2018 and 2019 seasons and last played for Baltimore in 2020.

2011- Tyron Smith (ninth overall)
Smith has become a mainstay at left tackle. He is a four-time All-Pro and was named to the 2010s All-Decade team.

2012- Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU (sixth overall)
Claiborne was considered the top cornerback prospect in 2012, and Dallas snatched his at No.6.

2013- Travis Frederick (31st overall)
The five-time Pro Bowler was one of the leaders of an elite offensive line for six seasons, but his career was cut short because of Guillain Barre Syndrome.

2014- Zack Martin (16th overall)
Martin was a surprise selection but lived up to his draft slot and then some. He is an eight-time All-Pro with 137 career starts.

2015- Byron Jones (27th overall)
Jones became a go-to player while playing safety and cornerback for the Cowboys. While he only had two interceptions, he broke up 43 passes while playing for Dallas. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent in 2020.

2016 – Ezekiel Elliott (fourth overall)
The Cowboys selected Elliott as a catalyst for its running game, and he more than delivered. The Ohio State product ran for over 8,200 yards before his release earlier this offseason.

2017- Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan (28th overall)
Charlton was considered a premier pass-rusher entering the draft but fizzled out in the pros. He lasted just two seasons in Dallas and has been bouncing around the league ever since.

2018- Leighton Vander Esch (19th overall)
Vander Esch became a featured player for the Cowboys early in his career before injuries. Dallas declined his fifth-year option in 2021 but has re-signed him twice.

2020- CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma (17th overall)
Lamb has become the number-one receiver for Dallas with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and 20 touchdowns over his first three years in the league. The team recently picked up his fifth-year option.

2021- Micah Parsons (12th overall)
The Cowboys traded back and ended up with one of the best defensive players in the NFL. In his first two NFL seasons, Parsons has collected 26.5 sacks, won Defensive Rookie of the Year, and made two All-Pro teams.

2022- Tyler Smith (24th overall)
Smith was forced into the lineup as a rookie and more than held his own in 17 starts.
