One woman is dead and a man is injured following a shootout in West Dallas in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident was captured on a Ring video camera fixed to the front of a home in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Street.
In the video, the clapping of gunfire can be heard, with dozens of shots fired between several individuals. After some of the involved parties apparently escape in a vehicle, the gunfire ceases, and screams of agony can be heard coming from the injured man.
“The preliminary investigation determined when officers arrived, they found two adult victims, one man, one woman, who had been shot. Both victims were transported to a hospital, where the female victim died from her injuries and the male victim remains in stable condition,” the Dallas Police Department noted on its crime blog.
Police identified 21-year-old Aureanna Hernandez as the woman killed in the gunfight, which took place in the council district of City Council Member Omar Narvaez (D6).
As of Tuesday, District 6 had the second-highest number of criminal incidents reported to DPD, with 3,284 crimes committed so far this year. Including Hernandez, 11 people have been murdered in his district, which has seen a roughly 6.5% increase in overall violent crimes year to date, according to the City of Dallas Open Data crime analytics dashboard.
Citywide, murders year to date as of Tuesday were up by roughly 20%, undermining City leaders’ Violent Crime Reduction Plan, which targets designated crime hotspots.
It is currently unclear whether Hernandez and the injured man were the intended targets of the shooter, and police have not released any additional information about the identities of the parties involved.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made by authorities, who are actively seeking any information regarding the potential shooters.
Police are asking the public to contact DPD Detective Kimberly Mayfield by phone at 214-671-3646 or by email at [email protected] with any information about the incident.
