An intense two-alarm fire Monday morning left a Dallas apartment building uninhabitable.

Nearly 20 residents were displaced, Dallas Fire-Rescue told The Dallas Express.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call at about 5:08 a.m. to 9601 Forest Lane.

When DFR arrived at the Forestwood on the Creek Apartments in Northeast Dallas, they found flames shooting out of the roof of a three-story building.

Firefighters immediately began fire suppression efforts to get the fire under control.

Additional fire units were called to help keep the fire suppressed, according to DFR.

Eight apartments sustained heavy fire damage and the entire building, which consisted of 12 units, was not able to be salvaged.

Jason Evans spoke to The Dallas Express and gave an account of how many residents have been displaced.

“Sixteen residents (nine adult males and seven adult females) were displaced as a result of the fire, but the American Red Cross was called out to assist them with their needs,” Evans said.

Firefighters are still sifting through the damage to figure out what possibly could have started the blaze.

“Thankfully, all the residents were able to evacuate the building safely, but there was one resident taken to the hospital for undisclosed medical reasons,” Evans said.

A firefighter was also taken to a local hospital after suffering a minor injury during the incident.

The firefighter and the resident are expected to be OK, according to the DFR.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
