The second edition of the USFL returns for its second season on Saturday.

The league features eight teams based in four hub cities (Birmingham, AL; Detroit, MI; Canton, OH; and Memphis, TN) playing a ten-game schedule from April 15 through June 18.

The top two teams in each division advance to play each other in the playoffs, with the winners advancing to the championship game.

The Birmingham Stallions defeated the Philadelphia Stars 33-30 in last season’s championship game.

Like the XFL, the USFL has some different rules designed to innovate modern football.

This season, kickoffs will come from further back, offensive fumbles through the end zone will not be touchbacks, offenses are allowed to throw two forward passes, teams have the option to go for one, two, or three points after a touchdown, and teams can attempt a 4th-and-12 play instead of a traditional onside kick.

Teams will also be allowed to have an inactive emergency quarterback in case both the starter and backup are injured during the game. However, the starter or the backup can only reenter the game if the emergency quarterback comes in during the fourth quarter.
