A Thursday morning home invasion and shooting left one dead, according to Dallas police.
Dallas police responded to a shooting call at 12:20 a.m. They arrived at a home on the 3400 block of North Oak Cliff’s West Jefferson Boulevard. The location is nearby DISD’s George Peabody Elementary School.
Police found a wounded 28-year-old Pedram Rezaei Haghighi. He had been hit with several gunshot rounds inside his residence.
Haghighi died from his multiple injuries at a nearby hospital after Dallas Fire-Rescue transported him for emergency care.
A preliminary investigation concluded that unknown suspects had entered the home and attacked Haghighi.
Police are actively interviewing witnesses and searching for security footage to help gather information about possible suspects.

The home invasion and murder are part of a larger violent crime wave roiling South Dallas and the larger city.
According to the Dallas crime analytics dashboard, there have been 84 murders and non-negligent manslaughters in Dallas year to date as of April 12. This represents a roughly 18% increase over the same period last year.
In Dallas City Council District 3, represented by Council Member Casey Thomas II, murders and non-negligent manslaughters have seen a 166% year-to-date increase.
The Dallas Express contacted Councilman Casey Thomas II’s office to inquire about the killing of constituent Pedram Rezaei Haghighi and the significant spike in murders and non-negligent manslaughters in City Council District 3 but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
