The Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers were in action on Wednesday night.

Here is what happened on the ice, on the field, and behind the scenes.

NHL

Dallas Stars (46-21-14, first in Central Division, third in Western Conference)

Last Game: Stars 5, St. Louis Blues 2

After a 2-2 first period, Dallas scored three goals in the second to take the game. Rookie forward Wyatt Johnston scored his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, and a Tyler Seguin power-play goal put the game out of reach.

Noteworthy: The win was the Stars’ 25th road victory of the season, tying the franchise record.

— Defenseman Miro Heiskanen passed Sergei Zubov for the most points by a defenseman in a single season in franchise history. He also passed Craig Hartsburg for the most assists by a Stars’ defenseman in one season.

— Jason Robertson collected his 108th point of the season, the second-most by a Stars player in franchise history. The total is also the most in a season by a U.S.-born player 23 or younger.

MLB

Texas Rangers (7-5, tied first in American League West)

Last Game: Kansas City Royals 10, Rangers 1

Nathaniel Lowe homered for the Rangers in the bottom of the first, but the team could not muster any offense after that, as only three players came up with hits. The Royals scored 10 unanswered runs, capped by a four-run seventh inning. Texas starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi yielded six runs in five innings, while reliever Taylor Hearn allowed the other four.

Noteworthy: Shortstop Corey Seager has been placed on the 10-day IL with a hamstring strain that will force him to miss four weeks. Josh Smith started in his place on Wednesday. In a corresponding move, outfielder Leody Taveras was activated from the IL.

— The Rangers are one of four MLB teams extending beer sales into the eighth inning due to a sped-up pace of play in 2023.

Next up: Rangers at Houston Astros (6-7), 7:10 p.m. CT Friday

Dallas Mavericks (offseason)

Noteworthy: Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who was traded from Dallas as part of the Kyrie Irving trade in February, is enjoying the fact that the Mavericks missed the playoffs.

“I ain’t gonna lie, there’s a certain level of happiness from the pettier side of my psyche,” he said in an interview with FanDuel TV.
