Crime in North Dallas ticked up in March, in no small part due to the increase in reported criminality in Council Member Jaynie Schultz’s District 11.

Overall, crime crept up 6.3% year over year last month in her district, according to the City of Dallas Open Data crime analytics dashboard.

The main driver of that increase was motor vehicle thefts, which spiked by 58.6% in March.

However, other more violent crimes were committed, too. The Dallas Express reached out to the Dallas Police Department (DPD) and inquired about some of these incidents.

One such incident, a violent aggravated assault, was committed on March 12 near White Rock Creek. Two victims flagged down a police officer around 11:55 p.m.

“The preliminary investigation determined a man and a woman were assaulted during an argument by an unknown male suspect. Both the man and the woman were taken to a local hospital,” Public Information Officer Juan Fernandez informed The Dallas Express in an emailed statement.

Shortly before that, on March 8, two suspects robbed the construction site at the corner of Southern Boulevard and Noel Road.

“The victim stated that two unknown suspects left the [scene] after taking tools without consent. The victim stated that he followed the suspects until one of the suspects pointed what appeared to be a gun at him,” Fernandez wrote.

That same day, someone held up a restaurant employee at gunpoint in the 13300 block of Preston Road.

“The victim stated that an unknown suspect approached the cash register, pointed a gun, and [demanded] money. The suspect then took the property and left the location,” Fernandez explained.

The Dallas Express emailed Council Member Schultz and briefed her on the crime increases in her council district in March, asking if she had any comment on the public safety situation.

No response from her was received by press time.

The Dallas Express, The People’s Paper, believes that important information about the city, such as crime rates and trends, should be easily accessible to you. Dallas has more crime per capita than hotspots like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York, according to data from the FBI’s UCR database.
