The Dallas Stars and the Texas Rangers continued their seasons on Monday night.

Here is what happened on the ice, on the field, and behind the scenes.

NHL

Dallas Stars (45-21-14, tied first in Central Division, tied third in Western Conference)

Last Game: Stars 6, Detroit Red Wings 1

The Stars scored three goals on their first six shots and rolled from there. Dallas tallied the first six goals of the night (from six different players) and forced Detroit to change goalies after the first period as it coasted to its 45th win of the season.

Noteworthy: With a goal in the second period, Stars forward Joe Pavelski crossed the 1,000 career point mark, becoming the 10th U.S.-born player to reach the mark. He was one of two current NHL players to reach the milestone on Monday as Ottawa’s Claude Giroux also accomplished the feat.

MLB

Texas Rangers (6-4, first in American League West)

Last Game: Rangers 11, Kansas City Royals 2

The Rangers blew this one open with a seven-run sixth inning that gave them an 11-1 lead. Bubba Thompson doubled in a run, Travis Jankowski singled in another, and Adolis Garcia delivered the big hit with a grand slam – his second home run of the season. Andrew Heaney struck out 10 in five innings while allowing no earned runs to get the win.

Noteworthy: Heaney tied an American League record with nine consecutive strikeouts, coming up one short of the MLB record and joining Detroit’s Tyler Alexander and Doug Fister as the only AL pitchers to do so.

— Texas is in sole possession of first place in the AL West after the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Washington Nationals on Monday.

— The Rangers have placed catcher Mitch Garver on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain and called up catcher Sandy Leon from Triple-A. Garver is hitting .263 with two home runs and six RBIs this season.
