In the second installment of our monthly feature on restaurant inspections in the city, The Dallas Express is shining a spotlight on establishments that did not measure up to standards in the latest round of review.
The People’s Paper hopes to help local residents get a handle on the safest (and riskiest) places to dine in the city.
According to the City of Dallas, a restaurant inspection score of 60-69 is considered “failing.” A score of 59 or below is considered “unacceptable” and requires the immediate shutdown of the restaurant. The scoring is weighted based on a combination of critical and non-critical (or minor) violations.
A failing score requires re-inspection within 10 days. An unacceptable rating requires the closure of the restaurant until the violations are addressed, and the establishment must pass an additional review before it is allowed to reopen.
The last article in this series featured four failing restaurants, with eight at risk of failure.
The latest data set provides information on 878 restaurants inspected in January.

Violations: Improper temperature control; no registered food manager; uncommon food labels; sanitation; employees did not wash hands; unclean grease traps; sanitation of utensils; food stored on the floor.

Score: 70
Inspection date: January 9
Violations: Toxic items stored above food items; contamination of utensils and linens; temperature control; damaged equipment; contamination of equipment; dirty surfaces; food containment.
The Dallas Express reached out for comment but had not received a response from any by the publication deadline.
