A North Texas resident won the Powerball in February, earning more than $2 million.
The Plano local, whose name has not been revealed, bought the winning Quick Pick ticket at a RaceTrac on 5700 State Highway 121, close to the Dallas Tollway in Plano, according to WFAA.
The winning numbers for the February 25 drawing were 11-24-58-66-67, per the Texas Lottery website.
The winner matched all five numbers but failed to match the red Powerball number, 26, preventing him from winning the jackpot.
The matching numbers earned the winner $1 million, along with an additional million for purchasing a Power Play ticket. The official website explains, “For an additional $1 per play, the Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times! The multiplier number is randomly selected just before each drawing.”
Other people won smaller amounts of money, including one person who claimed a ticket worth $150,000 after he matched four out of the five numbers, along with matching the Powerball and purchasing a Power Play ticket. Without the Powerball, the prize would only have been $100.
According to WFAA, 36 tickets reached that threshold to win the $100 prize.
This is not the first time in recent memory that a Plano resident has won a big prize through the Texas Lottery.
In January, a resident pulled in the $1 million prize through a Quick Pick draw of the Mega Millions, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. However, the Mega Millions ball was not picked. This winning ticket was also purchased at a Racetrac in Plano, though it was not the same location.
Recently in California, a lottery ticket made history by creating the first billionaire from its drawings. A man named Edwin Castro won $2 billion from a ticket bought in November 2022.
Castro did not want his name revealed, but due to state disclosure laws, the winner’s name could not be kept secret. Texas law, however, allows for anonymity.
Meanwhile, the prize for winning the Lotto Texas jackpot this coming Saturday is a whopping $51 million, the largest since 2010.
