Legislator Files Texas Independence Referendum

A North Texas representative has filed a bill in the Texas Legislature to initiate a study of the options for separation from the United States of America.

Rep. Brian Slaton (R-Royce City) filed House Bill (HB) 3596 on March 6, the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo during the Texas War for Independence in 1836.

The bill would require a referendum vote on November 7, 2023, “on the question of whether this state should reassert its status as an independent nation.”

If the referendum was approved, a Texas Independence Committee would be created “to study and make recommendations regarding the most effective and expeditious method by which Texas may be returned to its status as an independent nation.” The committee’s report would be due on December 31, 2024.

In a press release provided to The Dallas Express, Slaton explained, “The Texas Constitution is clear that all political power resides in the people. After decades of continuous abuse of our rights and liberties by the federal government, it is time to let the people of Texas make their voices heard.”

Continuing, Slaton said, “On this 187th anniversary of the fall of the Alamo I’m proud to file this bill to let the people of Texas vote on the future of our State. Texas was born out of a desire for liberty and self-governance, and that desire continues to burn in the hearts of all Texans.”

The announcement also comes shortly after the anniversary of Texas Independence Day on March 2, as reported by The Dallas Express.

In 1836, Texas separated from Mexico in response to Mexican dictator Santa Anna abolishing the Constitution of the United Mexican States of 1824. At the time, Texans had made repeated appeals to restore the constitutional protections to no avail. They finally chose to declare independence on March 2.

When asked for comment, the Texas Nationalist Movement sent The Dallas Express a statement from its president, Daniel Miller, saying, “The people of Texas will look back on this day as a historic first step in taking back our autonomy and our right to self-determination from the federal government.”

Miller claimed that “66% of likely voters in Texas support this referendum coming up for a vote, and we thank Rep. Slaton for taking heed and giving them the opportunity to make their voice heard at the ballot box.”

“We look forward to working with legislators to get this bill passed and the referendum on the ballot,” he concluded.

Gilberto Hinojosa, the chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, told The Dallas Express, “As the party of tyrannical control, Texas Republicans’ new secession plan comes as no surprise — especially considering they have already put forth some of the most anti-democratic, anti-freedom and anti-American bills we’ve seen in decades.”

“The Republican Party of Texas has made it crystal clear that they have one common goal: to control every aspect of Texans’ lives,” Hinojosa continued.

“Republicans’ betrayal of the people of Texas and our country is anything but patriotic — and the future of our state is in danger,” he concluded. “Far-right extremists at the state level in Texas don’t want you to have even the protections offered to you by the federal government — they want total, unadulterated control of your life.”

Since joining the Union in 1845, Texas has, at various times, taken steps to leave the national government. Aside from the failed Confederate States of America during the Civil War, several movements beginning in the 1990s have encouraged separation.

No state can ever legally secede . Texas has tried before and failed . One has only to think about our pledge of allegiance which clearly states One Nation Indivisible ! Folks need to be careful about who they elect .

Hinojosa is a political enemy of truth and fact. For over 4 decades the Federal government lead by democrats have given aid and comfort to illegal aliens, including citizenship. On more than one occasion they have PROMISED the nationwide electorate that IF we gave citizenship to those who entered illegally that they would CLOSE the border and close the loopholes that give benefit to those who violate our borders. They LIED, just as Hinojosa lies.
Texas has taken the BRUNT of all costs, social and financial in dealings with illegal immigration, drug mules and human trafficking, and those of felonious background, including terrorists and foreign government operatives having “rights” to be in Texas.

Many who come illegally are good people, however their entrance into the USA and TEXAS is usually under a CONSPIRACY to enter illegally. That conspiracy is a FELONY in TEXAS and in the USA, yet they are given rights, and BENEFITS for entering. Some cities in Texas have more illegal aliens than citizens. No one beginning a new life by committing a crime deserves that life at all, nor under law are they technically allowed any kind of benefit for an illegal act. Yet the left bestows benefit to them.

Just recently, NY claimed that the few hundred illegals delivered to their state by Texas and Florida is “unsustainable”, yet the liberals, leftists, and Democrats demand that the unlawful invasion continue in Texas and that most of the illegals remain here. This is an attack upon Texas by the leftist lead Federal Government.

Just the fact that Texas has declared an invasion under its constitution and the Federal Government has failed under its constitutional duties to end the invasion and close the border creates not only the RIGHT but the NECESSITY of Texas Independence. Texas has legally declared it is under attack, not less than if at war.

It is time to end the unlawful abuse of Texas by the leftists in the United States. The Constitution is CLEAR that it is the DUTY of the United States Government to PROTECT Texas from invasion. Since it will not, then Texas MUST declare its independence.

Hinojosa is one of the one’s whose fault this is. Hard to listen to a person like that.

Hinojoso is correct that the Republican Party (especially our Governor) is taking away our freedoms. I have been an Independent voter, voting for the person and not the party but in the past I have voted for more Republicans but not any more. The Governor has taken women’s rights away from us, is banning books, just to name a few. I am a native Texan but this is not the Texas I grew up in. It used to be an independent thinking state but not any more. The Republican Party is trying to control our lives.

You are very correct sir & enough is enough, if we must water the tree of LIBERTY with the blood of tyrants BY GOD let it begin in TEXAS! TEXAS COMES from the Caddo tribe’s word taysha, translated to tejas in spanish which means FRIEND & FRIEND’S DON’T LET FRIENDS LIVE IN GOVERNMENT ENFORCED SERVITUDE OR SLAVERY. To all our brainwashed, braindead & otherwise mentally deficient tejas on the left kindly step aside, leave the state or get “runned over” in the vernacular of the day. I ain’t kiddin’ neither! Bless your hearts & FU. Ya’ll have a nice day now ya hear

Texas won’t declare an invasion and they can’t secede; the points are moot, and an amusing waste of time and money; thanks to Rep. Bryan (sp) Slaton.

I am a proud Texan and have long-cherished the spirit of independence that still exists among it’s unique liberty loving people. That said, I do not support this. Simply for one reason. Texas is not blameless and has had it’s fair share since 1845 of contributing to the very things that are not right about this nation. We should instead be spearheading solutions in our exceptional position and not running away from the challenges that have always been faced and shared with the rest of the U.S.A.

Good luck with all of that. The UK is some real trouble because of Brexit and Texit it would be no different.

Here is a brief rundown of what Texas will lose: federal tax dollars, any/all military support, including FEMA/disaster relief, increase our spending, while having no trade agreements to import or export, we have no currency, etc. and we would still have to be recognized by other countries in order to have any sort of relationship for all sorts of agreements.

I mean, we can’t even get our power grid to a place where we don’t panic if there is inclement weather and we think the same people could create and run an independent country? Foolish.

Correct. Typical knee-jerk reaction to stir up the base. Whine first, think second. Even if they did secede, they would still complain everything was taken from them by the Democrats and given to illegal aliens.

where do u think this tax money that the Fed Govt so graciously gives us comes from? It’s out tax money we STUPIDLY send to DC & allow them to steal us blind. Most of which they keep & a pittance, comparatively they return to us, their little servant/slaves. When we succeed, all that money we send to the traitors/thieves in DC stays here. We send more than we get back. Your lack of knowledge & understanding is mind numbingly stupefying. The Federal govt has never created an earned Dollar NEVER/EVER! THEY’VE ILLEGALLY ALLOWED THE FEDERAL RESERVE TO PRINT BUTT LOADS OF INFLATION INDUCING FIAT DOLLARS THAT ARE BASICALLY WORTHLESS & backed by nothing of ANY VALUE, of course the Federal Reserve is neither Federal & hasN’T got a SINGLE GAWDDAM dollar in reserve except those they’ve stolen & socked away in their corrupt banks & stolen investments. With the money we would save from sending nothing to DC could pay TEXANS & TEXANS only for health Insurance & a similar program to Social Security, which DC has stolen most of & it remains bankrupt & only supported by the current taxes being sent in by todays hard working Americans. And if you can’t wrap your mind around the fact that the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS IS THE 9TH LARGEST ECONOMY AS COMPARED TO ALL THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD, exceeding the GDP of Canada, S Korea, Russia, & Australia & u honestly think those countries & people won’t do business with TEXAS? Your ignorance exposes & horribly embarrass’s your lack of intellectual ability to use logic, reason & readily available statistics? Have you heard of google? I’m just stupefied by such a gravity of intellectual abstinence.

        Incorrect. Texas essentially breaks even.

The US would essentially cut off all ties to the state, thus killing the economy. Texas would not be part of any type of trade agreements and would likely have the Navy sitting in the Gulf deterring any sort of shipments and all roads, rails, and airways would be cutoff. Where and how do you think Texas is able to play on the international stage? Oh, because it is included in the USA’s agreements with other countries.

The fact that you don’t recognize that fundamental piece of information shows how unintelligent you are.

Dude, in your grand research you failed to recognize the most basic fact staring at you.

Lastly and again, our Texas government can’t even manage a power grid, HTF they going to run Texas as an independent state? Lol

If I lived in Royce City, I’d have to vote for the Democrat. What an colossal waste of time. Go back and read your history. We fought a war. Approximately 750,000 died. No state can legally secede. I’d be curious to research and learn if we would be violating any of the terms of our readmission into the Union…66% likely votes support this referendum coming up for a vote…only if the poll was three guys in a car after obtaining THC gummies in OK.

If Texas (or any other state for that matter) leaves the United States, countries like China, Russia, Nort Korea would simply be delighted. Texas would not be independent for long. Without the military power of the United States, it would be annexed by China or Russia within a very short time. Remember the old adage: “United we stand, divided we fall“.
