The college basketball regular season came to an end over the weekend.
Here is how teams from around Texas did ahead of their respective conference tournaments.
No. 1 Houston Cougars (29-2, 17-1, first in the American Athletic Conference)
Last Game: No.1 Houston 67, Memphis 65
Jamal Shead’s buzzer-beating jumper helped Houston escape Memphis on Sunday. The Cougars led by as many as 12 in the second half, but Memphis eventually took the lead as the teams went back and forth. After Memphis tied the game at 65 with nine seconds left, Shead took the inbound, dribbled to the top of the key, and drained a contested shot as time expired.
Noteworthy: Houston has won 11 games in a row and has a good chance of being the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

No. 7 Baylor Bears (22-9, 11-7, tied for third in Big 12)
Last Game: Iowa State 73, No. 7 Baylor 58
After starting the game with a 3-0 lead, Baylor never climbed back in front. The Bears shot just 35.8% from the field and were outplayed in every dimension of the game. Senior guard Adam Flagler finished with 20 points while shooting 5-8 from behind the arc as Baylor dropped its regular season finale.
Noteworthy: The loss was the first for Baylor on Senior Day since 2019. The Bears scored a season-low 22 points in the first half and tied their season-low with 58 points for the entire game.

No. 9 Texas Longhorns (23-8, 12-6, second in Big 12)
Last Game: No. 9 Texas 75, No. 3 Kansas 59
If Texas had beaten TCU earlier in the week, the Longhorns would have shared the Big 12 title with Kansas. The Longhorns held the Jayhawks to just 36.2% shooting on the day while forcing 11 turnovers and holding everyone except Jalen Wilson under 10 points. Sir’Jabari Rice led Texas with 23 points off the bench, and Tyrese Hunter added 20.
Noteworthy: Texas finished the season 17-1 at home, including 6-0 against Top 25 opponents and 3-0 against the Top 10. The Longhorns also finished in second place in the Big 12.

No. 22 TCU Horned Frogs (20-11, 9-9, tied for fifth in Big 12)
Last Game: Oklahoma 74, No. 22 TCU 60
Tanner Groves and Grant Sherfield combined for 43 points for Oklahoma as the Sooners pulled off the upset. Oklahoma led the entire game as TCU struggled offensively, despite committing just five turnovers.
Noteworthy: The loss snapped a three-game winning streak against the Sooners for the Horned Frogs. TCU finished the regular season with nine Big 12 wins, the most since TCU entered the conference in 2012.

No. 24 Texas A&M Aggies (23-8, 15-3, second in the SEC)
Last Game: No. 24 Texas A&M 67, No. 2 Alabama 61
Texas A&M finished the season having won 17 of its last 20 games after knocking off No. 2 Alabama on Saturday. The Aggies led by as many as 15 and held off a late rally as the Crimson Tide took a brief lead and made things close. An Andersson Garcia steal with 34 seconds left sent A&M to the free throw line to add to its lead and end the Alabama run.
Noteworthy: The Aggies finished the regular season in second place in the SEC, one game behind Alabama. The Aggies went 15-3 in conference play, winning every conference home game and their most conference games since the 1922-23 season.

SMU Mustangs (10-21, 5-13, 10th in the American Athletic Conference)
Last Game: Cincinnati 97, SMU 74
Cincinnati took control of this game around the 17-minute mark of the first half and scored 51 points before halftime. SMU gave up 30 points to David DeJulius and 24 to Landers Nolley II in a season-ending loss.
Noteworthy: SMU had four players score double figures, led by Zhuric Phelps with 17.
