A man was arrested Wednesday evening in an alleged shooting related to an apparent lovers’ quarrel, Fort Worth police said in a media release.
Central Division officers were dispatched at 8:29 p.m. to the Valley at Cobb Park Apartments, 1701 East Robert Street, after reports of gunshots being fired.
One Fort Worth police officer who was off-duty at the time and was working security at the apartments in full uniform saw an armed man flee the scene and called for assistance from on-duty police officers.
A female victim of the shooting said that she and the suspect had been dating and that they had an argument that turned violent.
The suspect, the woman alleged, produced a handgun and fired from outside the apartment, hitting her once in the toe. The victim fled the apartment afterward in order to get to safety.
Several units from the Fort Worth Police Department, including the Air Support Division, Patrol Division, and Gang Unit, set up a perimeter in the area to search for the suspect.
The suspect was found hiding in a creek bed close to the 2300 block of South Riverside Drive less than 30 minutes later. Police said he was taken into custody without incident and was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor abrasions he received while trying to flee.
The victim was treated at the scene but refused to be transported to the hospital.
CBS reported that violent crime fell last year in Fort Worth. Crimes such as murder, aggravated assaults, and shootings were down by more than 600, with a change of 13%.
Not far away in Dallas, however, the Dallas Police Department reported to the Dallas Public Safety Committee that crime had increased by 6%, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
