Some Dallasites are saying that potholes throughout the city are so bad they have become dangerous to drivers.
One local commuter recently told CBS News that she almost saw a car accident on her morning route because of the road system’s state of disrepair.
“One of the cars — I guess there were two in front of me — quickly hit his brakes right in the center lane, causing everybody else to hit their brakes and try to swerve because there was a huge pothole right in the middle,” Brooke Bremer said.
This reportedly occurred in Dallas at Preston Road and Deloache Avenue.
“It seems that everywhere I go, there is a pothole to avoid,” Bremer continued. “I just know that this particular area has to get addressed quickly because cars will be ruined and accidents will happen.”
Another driver interviewed by CBS News who was not named said, “The City has to do something.” Someone in the background chimed in, saying, “soon,” as the man being interviewed continued and said, “today.”
The Dallas Express reached out to the City of Dallas and asked what is being done to remedy this issue but received no response at the time of publication.
However, CBS News reported that a City representative said the City is aware of the problem and is working to fix it.
Part of the City’s approach is working in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation to figure out who is responsible for individual potholes.
Dangerous potholes can be reported to the City by dialing 311 or by calling (214) 670-3111 when outside city limits.
Potholes that can cause significant vehicle damage are supposed to be repaired within 24 hours, according to the City. Potholes deemed non-hazardous, or those with a diameter less than three feet, are supposed to be fixed within three business days.
Amid continuing complaints, it remains unclear whether these timelines are being followed.
