A third suspect was recently arrested by Dallas police for his alleged part in an attempted carjacking that took place in a shopping center on Lovers Lane in Dallas.
Police arrested 19-year-old Kylan Owens on February 10, according to an email from DPD spokesman Juan Fernandez sent to The Dallas Express. No details have been provided on what led investigators to the suspect.
Three suspects have now been arrested by the police in connection with the attempted carjacking that took place last year. LeQuezio Dade and Anthony Primers — both 21 years old — were taken into custody by mid-January.
As reported by The Dallas Express, the alleged attempted carjacking took place on December 30, 2022, around 6:30 p.m. Dallas police responded to 5600 Lovers Lane.
Dade was allegedly armed with a rifle and approached the victim in the shopping center’s parking lot.
Dade reportedly demanded the victim give him his keys and wallet, but the victim refused and fought back. During the fight, Dade allegedly fired his weapon.
An armed bystander fired a shot at Dade. Dade then apparently fired several rounds into the parking lot.
Dade, Primers, and Owens eventually fled the scene, police claimed.
Fernandez confirmed to The Dallas Express that Dade received medical attention after the incident.
“Dade was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg,” said Fernandez.
There were no other injuries reported.
Dade, Owens, and Primers have been charged with aggravated robbery of an individual.
The incident took place in Gay Donnell Willis’ District 13. The councilwoman is part of the Public Safety Committee that was recently told by the Dallas Police Department that violent crime is up nearly 6% compared to last year.
Aggravated assaults have spiked 20% year-to-date in comparison to last year, according to a daily briefing from the DPD. Violent crimes such as murder and nonnegligent manslaughter have also increased by 11%.
