The Dallas Jesuit Rangers jumped to No. 5 in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings after blitzing Arlington 14-0 on Saturday to finish off their two game playoff series and smashing their rivals by a combined score of 28-1.
With the win, the Rangers set up a UIL Area Round showdown against Coppell High this week.
Against Arlington, Dallas Jesuit went on the attack quick and often, with the junior stars Myles Tucker and Tommy Delany driving in three runs apiece and classmate Jake Storey allowed just one hit. For the first four innings, Storey flirted with a no-hitter while striking out five, before allowing a soft single down the left field line in the fifth.
On the day, Delaney banged out three hits and Tucker had two, both of them for extra bases.
Senior Drew Messick also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for Jesuit, which hit .521 over the two-game set and slugged .750 as a team with a 1.350 OPS.
The Rangers also rank No. 4 in the Dallas Morning News Area rankings, while Coppell is ranked seventh in the area. Now 26-7-1, the Cowboys knocked off Denton Guyer in back-to-back games to earn their way into the area round.
The times, locations and dates for next weekend’s series have yet to be determined.
