A Fort Worth fire engine was stolen before finally being crashed.
Prior to the theft, Fort Worth Fire Department personnel had been responding to a medical situation at a hotel on the South Freeway in the overnight hours of February 1, according to Fox 4 News.
Somebody told the firefighters that their truck was being stolen, and they called the police.
However, the fire truck was discovered a block away, close to Interstate 35W and Seminary Drive. Reportedly, tire tracks were seen, which appeared to indicate that the driver had lost control of the fire truck and crashed it into a pole.
But the driver was long gone by the time the fire truck was discovered.
There was some damage to the truck, mostly minor, and it has presently been taken out of commission. There have been no injuries reported so far in the course of the investigation.
Fort Worth Police are investigating what happened to the fire truck.
The Dallas Fire-Rescue, meanwhile, has a shortage of fire trucks, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. There are ten frontline trucks out of a total of 23 facing mechanical issues that have taken them out of duty as of October 2022. Those 23 trucks are ladder-based trucks, which are fully equipped.
Those fire trucks serve a total of 59 fire stations throughout Dallas.
The biggest issue with the DFR’s fire trucks is they are highly specialized and need specific parts in order to fix plus a mechanic knowledgeable about how to fix them.
As of yet, there’s no telling why the fire truck was stolen, but nearby Dallas has experienced more than 160 vehicles stolen, according to Dallas Police Department data.
