In a newly released analysis conducted by HomeSnacks.com that ranked the richest Texas cities in 2023, North Texas dominated.
North Texas cities were in six out of the 10 top spots. The analysis factored in the poverty rate, median household income, and unemployment rate of each city. The analysis also factored in the cities where the richest people live in Texas.
The analysis considered 355 cities with a population of at least 5,000.
Southlake took the top spot with a median income of $239,833. Southlake was ranked No.1 last year, as well. Other North Texas cities that made the list include Lucas, Coppell, Heath, Highland Village, and Keller.
Mayor of Southlake John Huffman told The Dallas Express that “Southlake’s best quality is its people, and as Mayor, I get to see that every day.” He said any recognition that the city has gotten is “a direct reflection” of the efforts of “city council and city staff work[ing] very hard to provide an excellent quality of life for our citizens.”
“We will continue to work every day to provide the very best quality of life for all of our citizens,” Huffman said.
Mayor of Lucas Jim Olk told The Dallas Express that he was not sure he agreed with “HomeSnack’s ranking and/or methodology but the city of Lucas is truly ‘rich’ in community atmosphere.”
He additionally said that in Lucas, “we enjoy a more rural environment having enough open space to raise animals, have a garden, and enjoy the outdoors.”
“People tell me they feel the difference just driving to Lucas, the stress and hustle bustle just melt away into the open space. Our residents love this community and in my opinion that factor is the most important label,” Olk said.
Lucas ranked at No.4 with a median income of $159,563 and moved up in the rankings by one from last year. Coppell had a median income of $130,805, placing it at No.6, the same ranking as last year.
Heath had a higher median income at $193,767, moving it up eight places since last year when it did not make the top 10. It is seemingly ranked lower because it has a higher unemployment rate than the cities ahead of it, at 3.5%.
Highland Village, ranked at No.8 was also not on the list last year, when it was ranked at No.25. The city has a median income of $151,951.
Keller took 10th place, the same as last year, with a median income of $149,822.
