Weather forecasts report that Texans will soon be seeing some much-needed rain.
A large storm system has been making its way through the southern Central Plains and towards the Lone Star State. Tomorrow, the rain is expected to hit the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. There is a 100% chance of precipitation, as NBC 5 DFW reported.
North Texas has been struggling with being abnormally dry due to the rain deficit. Meteorologists are hoping the storm system will bring in moisture from the Gulf, resulting in a soaking rain.
Rain totals will likely be around an inch in North Texas, which is welcome news in light of recent fire dangers. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Texas A&M Forest Service fought more than 2,000 wildfires last year.
This anticipated storm could also bring in cooler weather for Texans. On the back end of the storm system, icy weather could reach the Panhandle and the rest of the northwestern area of North Texas. The northwest could expect to see a bit of a snowy mix in the rainy weather by Tuesday afternoon.
The region has experienced warmer-than-usual weather in the month of January. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the area broke record temperatures after hitting a high of 80 degrees during the winter season. North Texas experienced the year’s first bout of severe weather in the first week of January.
Residents could begin to see rain starting as early as tonight. Tomorrow’s storms could cause slick road conditions around Texoma, so travelers should check forecasts before departing.
Although there should be no accumulation on the roads in DFW, the National Weather Service still warns residents to be on the lookout for slush.
