Frisco is on the receiving end of yet another major corporate relocation.
McAfee, a global leader in online protection known for its antivirus software, has announced a new regional headquarters.
The new headquarters will be located at The Star in Frisco starting in mid-2023, the company said in a press release. McAfee will retain its main office in San Jose, California.
“Our decision to choose Frisco for our regional HQ was also based on the diverse cultural destination the city has become and the many opportunities our team members will have to be immersed in the community and to give back to the many non-profit organizations here,” said McAfee VP Benni Bueckert.
The company says it looks forward to becoming one of Frisco’s newest corporate presences. McAfee plans to partner with the city and the Frisco EDC to expand awareness around STEM, especially through its Online Safety Program for Kids.
“At McAfee, our commitment to protecting all that matters extends beyond the digital world. We believe we all have a responsibility to help shape our local communities and to make a difference. With a shared vision and passion for supporting our local community, we see endless possibilities with this partnership.”
The program aims to educate children about online protection and inspire children to pursue a career in STEM and cybersecurity, the company said.
Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney says the relocation is a big win for Frisco.
“As an innovation-focused Smart City, we know how important online protection is. We are proud to have a global leader like McAfee regionally headquartered in Frisco,” Cheney said.
McAfee’s namesake founder, John McAfee, died by suicide in a Barcelona prison in 2021, where he was held on tax evasion charges. Known for his eccentric personality, McAfee was the subject of several documentaries, and had sometimes been called the “Real Most Interesting Man in the World.”
He sold his stake in McAfee in 1994 for an estimated $100 million, and Intel eventually acquired the company in 2010 for $7.68 billion.
