The Collin County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man believed to be involved in the disappearance of a 33-year-old woman earlier this month.
Kayla Kelley’s friends reported her missing on January 11 after claiming to have not seen her for days.
During the investigation, the sheriff’s office said a man identified as Ocastor Ferguson, 32, was named as a person of interest. He was later arrested on a kidnapping charge. It remains unknown what led investigators to the suspect.
Despite the arrest, the Collin County sheriff is still in need of the public’s help in locating Kelley.
According to a news release, the victim’s car was recovered in a remote part of Frisco. However, the details of Kelley’s last known whereabouts or anything that led to her disappearance remain unclear, ABC 8 reported.
The suspect, Ferguson, currently held at the Collin County Detention Center in lieu of a $1,000,000 bond is said to also go by the name Kevin Brown.
The Dallas Express reached out to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office for additional information and comment but had not heard back at the time of publication.
In Texas alone, there were 46,581 missing person reports in 2021, with 12,807 of those being adults, according to Texas Center for the Missing.
According to the City of Dallas’ Open Data Crime Analytics Dashboard, more than 150 people were kidnapped or abducted in Dallas in 2022, amid a yearlong crime wave overseen by an indifferent city council.
This month has seen a 50% rise in the number of kidnappings and abductions compared to January of last year, rising from 6 to 9.
