Grocery chain H-E-B is continuing its expansion into North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area by opening up a second location in Frisco, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Frisco’s planning and zoning staff granted the San Antonio-based H-E-B a 30-day extension to submit the preliminary paperwork for the eventual new location on a plot of land already owned by the company.
An H-E-B spokesperson said in a statement that a construction timeline has not been set yet.
However, a preliminary plan has been submitted and moved to January 24.
The planned location is the southwest corner of U.S. 380 W. University and FM 423 near Little Elm.
H-E-B opened up a new location in Frisco in September, its first expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The store had lines of people waiting outside at 6 a.m. on its opening day, breaking records for shopper traffic. It remained busy with long lines for days afterward.
In response to the high traffic, the store added two more checkout lanes and four more self-checkout lanes less than two weeks after its opening.
H-E-B opened a store in Plano in November 2021 and plans two open two more stores, one in McKinney and the other in Allen, with potentially more store opening announcements on its way based on the fact that H-E-B purchased dozens of land parcels across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
H-E-B already opened up one store in McKinney in June 2021, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The news comes with more than 1,200 planned homes near the PGA of America headquarters in Frisco and Little Elm, both communities bringing in new housing developments.
In addition, H-E-B reportedly told the city it would like to build another location at the University, complete with gas pumps and a car wash.
Originating in the Hill Country, the H-E-B company is 116 years old. H-E-B has spread throughout Texas with locations in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.
