A rural Southeast Texas community is in shock after a 21-year-old woman was found dead in a small home in Waller County, allegedly decapitated by her new husband.
On Wednesday at about 4:35 p.m., Waller County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a possible death in the 200 block of Oak Hollow Boulevard, near Magnolia, according to a news release.
Anggy Diaz, 21, was found by the deputies in a small residential structure behind the primary residence at the address. She was allegedly murdered by her husband, whom deputies identified as 21-year-old Jared James Dicus.
“Upon receiving the call, reporting deputies advised they had arrived and discovered a deceased female in a small residential structure behind the main residence. Deputies advised the female’s body had been mutilated,” read the news release.
The scene was especially bloody and gruesome because Diaz had been decapitated, said Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry.
“A portion of the body was dismembered, and the residence was covered in blood,” Guidry told reporters. “Gruesome scene at best.”
“Everything happened on the property. And all parts and pieces were recovered and submitted for evidence,” he added.
According to Guidry, law enforcement had been called to the residence before on disturbance calls, but now Dicus is being charged with murder.
“The husband was interviewed and gave a full confession, admitting to the murder of his wife,” stated the news release.
Waller County Judge Trey Duhon presided over the couple’s wedding ceremony just a few months ago and took to Facebook to share his thoughts on the incident.
“I’m sure many of you have heard about an occurrence yesterday in the Oak Hollow area of Waller County where a young man was arrested and charged with murdering his wife,” Duhon wrote.
“This involved a young couple that I married in October of 2022. During my short time with them, they were a very nice young couple. As with many of you, I’m greatly saddened and shocked by the news of this tragic event, and my prayers are with all of their families,” he stated.
Dicus is being held at the Waller County Jail. His bail was set at $500,000, according to online court records.
A GoFundMe was created to help raise money for Diaz’s funeral, and a vigil will be held on Saturday.
The new year has seen homicides and violent crimes spike in the greater Houston area, as well as in Dallas, where a roughly 80% increase in murders and 30% hike in aggravated assaults over 2022 year-to-date are spotlighting the precarity of elected City officials who have struggled to get crime under control in recent years.
