One person was killed following a shooting that resulted from a hit-and-run on Tuesday near Alliance Town Center, a shopping center in North Fort Worth.

The Fort Worth Police Department said officers were dispatched to Alliance Town Center to respond to a shooting at 12:30 p.m.

Police discovered a man with a gunshot wound who had reportedly been involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the parking lot of the shopping center.

Police said one vehicle struck another vehicle near the Olive Garden located in the shopping center. The driver of the vehicle that was struck then followed the other vehicle until they both stopped at Dick’s Sporting Goods, at which point the hit-and-run victim allegedly shot the other driver.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Police said the man’s name will be released only after relatives have been informed of his death.

Fort Worth police could be seen investigating two vehicles, a black BMW sedan and a white sedan with Wisconsin plates, both with front-end damage. It was not known which car belonged to which person.

Police said they found two guns on the ground at the scene.

A witness told NBC 5 DFW that a third man pulled a gun during the altercation, but it is unclear what role, if any, he played in the altercation.

NBC 5 reported that one person, who had been handcuffed, was seen being taken away on a stretcher, but police have not indicated if that was the same person killed in the shooting.

It is unclear if the alleged shooter is in custody or what charges he may face.

Police said the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

The dramatic shooting in Fort Worth during the first week of the year is one early sign that the trends of rising crime in DFW may continue into 2023, if political authorities like the Dallas City Council do not reconsider their soft-on-crime approach.
