Police in Fort Worth released surveillance video that they hope will help them in their efforts to identify and apprehend a driver who struck and killed a 74-year-old man in a hit-and-run incident on Friday, August 12.

As reported by The Dallas Express, Juan Garcia was fatally struck while crossing the street in a Fort Worth neighborhood. Officers responded to the intersection of Vaughn Boulevard and Avenue H at about 9:50 p.m. and found Garcia fatally hit at the scene.

Fort Worth police released surveillance footage showing the vehicle that may have been involved in the hit-and-run incident. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of the car, which appears to be a small, black SUV.

The footage shows the vehicle speeding through a nearby intersection moments after it allegedly struck Garcia. Police did not say whether they had a license plate number when they released the footage.

“We’re just asking for the public’s help,” said Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter. “If they could just see this, look at this video and see.”

They might think, “Hey, maybe I noticed this car,” Carter said.

Garcia’s son, Andres, told Fox 4 News that his father had been battling recent health issues and was taking his usual daily walk when he was fatally struck.

“Every day. I mean, that was his form of exercise. That’s what he did. He walked around the neighborhood,” he said. “Everybody around here knows him. Everybody knows him.”

“What kind of person is not going to help an old man in a walker, knowing that they harmed this person?” the grieving son asked.

Andres Garcia described his father, who was killed three weeks before his 75th birthday, as a lover of motorcycles. He added that Garcia loved spending time with his 10 grandchildren.

“He was everybody’s friend,” Andres said. “I’ve never met a person that he’s not friends with instantly.”

The Fort Worth Police Department asked anyone with information that might help identify the driver or vehicle involved in the hit-and-run to call 817-392-4887.
