Two people were killed, and two others were injured following an early morning crash in Far East Dallas on Monday.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on I-30 and Ferguson Road on March 21.

Witness reports revealed the collision occurred after a stalled Chevrolet Trax with its hazard lights on in the left-center highway lane was rear-ended by an oncoming Chevrolet Tahoe SUV.

The impact propelled the Trax forward into the right median, while the Tahoe continued forward eastbound before colliding with an HOV zipper wall.

According to the sheriff’s department, first responders pronounced a man and a woman dead at the scene. They were standing outside the Trax when it was struck by the Tahoe.

The Tahoe’s driver was taken to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas in stable condition. Another female passenger of the Trax was transported to Baylor in serious but stable condition.

The sheriff’s police response crew is still investigating the specifics of the two deceased victims’ positions before the crash. However, the unit said the impact had thrust the two casualties forward, causing them to land heavily in the left-center lane, where authorities pronounced them dead.

For several hours overnight, eastbound I-30 was closed between the Ferguson Road exit and the Jim Miller Road exit. Around 7 a.m., all lanes were reopened.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has yet to reveal the names of the two people who died or of the two who survived.
