Dallas police arrested a North Texas mayor on Tuesday for alleged solicitation of a minor, according to a DPD release.

On June 21, DPD’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, along with U.S. Marshals, Homeland Security, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other local organizations, arrested Matthew McIlravy, 42, on the charge of online solicitation of a minor under the age of 14, a second-degree felony.

McIlravy is the current mayor of Pilot Point, Texas.

The City has since taken down his profile page, but a previous version viewed by The Dallas Morning News showed that McIlravy started as mayor of Pilot Point in May and his term was to run through 2025.

McIlravy served as a city councilman before being elected mayor, according to the since-deleted profile page.

He also leads a men’s prayer and a marriage-focused group at a local church, his biography continued. The church declined to comment to DMN on the arrest or whether Mcllravy will retain his leadership positions.

The arrest is the culmination of a five-month-long investigation by the Dallas Police Department’s ICAC Unit, the lead agency in the North Texas ICAC Task Force.

This ongoing investigation revealed other alleged communications with minors who have not been identified at this time. No further information is currently available.

I know a mayoral position is non-partisan and when someone runs for mayor no political affiliation is required to be disclosed but I have no doubt he is a Democrat. Whenever a Republican does anything wrong an article will say, John Doe (R) or John Doe, a Republican. When a Democrat does something wrong only the name is printed with no political affiliation.
