Police have arrested a man who they believe set his own Tarrant County home on fire on Saturday night.

The fire destroyed the home in the 8100 block of Raymond Avenue in White Settlement on August 13. By the time the fire department arrived at around 9:15 p.m., the flames had engulfed the entire house. No one was injured in the incident.

Police believe that 36-year-old Aaron Hosak set his living room on fire, then left the house and watched it burn for a few minutes before fleeing.

Witnesses reported they saw a man running from the scene wearing only red boxer shorts. He was described as approximately 5’10” tall, weighing about 150 pounds, and in his mid-30s.

The fire was contained to the home and did not spread to other buildings or surrounding areas.

After investigators published the suspect’s description, a tip led police to 36-year-old Aaron Hosak. He was taken into custody without incident.

“I want to thank the public for their tips in this case and the outstanding police work,” said White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook. “Our extra eyes and ears really helped solve this case, from the initial person of interest to fully identifying the homeowner as the suspect in this case.”

Authorities alleged that Hosak intentionally set his house on fire. They speculated that possible reasons may include financial issues or other stressors, but Hosak’s motives are still under investigation.

Hosak was charged with one count of arson of a habitation, a first-degree felony with a penalty range of 5-99 years or life in prison, and an additional fine not to exceed $10,000.

No water or electric service was connected at the Raymond Avenue house, and homeless persons were sheltering in the dwelling. Hosak reportedly told the homeless individuals they should leave before allegedly starting the fire.
