Dallas has been added to the list of cities offering Pfizer booster shots to citizens as shipments have started to arrive in pharmacies and makeshift vaccination centers. As of Monday, the Ellis-David field house off of I-20 began operating as a hub for the distribution of booster shots.

The director of the Dallas County Health Department, Dr. Philip Huang, previously stated that Dallas County intends to offer shots to all of its residents. Dr. Huang previously told the Dallas Morning News that when the boosters are recommended, they will be available for “widespread use.” Now that the shots have been approved, Dallas plans on opening more centers like the Ellis-David field house.

The CDC states that vaccine effectiveness can “wane” over time, reducing its protection against more mild infections and other variants. CDC officials claim that the original two-dose vaccine will still protect against severe illness and death.

The FDA and CDC approved the booster for use, encouraging those who are “65 years and older, or anyone with underlying medical conditions/increased risk of exposure” to get the booster.

Parkland Memorial Hospital is also giving out boosters to eligible citizens via appointment. Expect to see more sites open at clinics and pharmacies, and look out for one booth at the Dallas State Fair. The Ellis-David location is available from 7:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m Monday through Saturday.
