Multiple Shootings Leave 6 Dead, 4 Injured in One Violent Night

In Houston, ten individuals, including two children, were shot in multiple unrelated incidents in just one night on Monday, January 17. The youngest victim was only one year old; six of the ten victims died. 

Northeast Harris County

One of the shootings involved a suspect wanted by Houston police for killing a Cracker Barrel manager, 59-year-old Robin Baucom on January 15 during an attempted robbery at her store.

Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Nathan Humphrey Jr. and, on January 17, located him in the 17700 block of W. Lake Houston Parkway. Around 6 p.m., deputies shot the man after he allegedly made gestures indicating he had a weapon. 

Humphrey was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Another shooting in northeast Harris County took place at 12700 W. FM 1960. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., a man allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in the back.

Police report that a man and two other women arrived at an apartment where the ex-girlfriend and new boyfriend were. A fight broke out among the women, and the new boyfriend was shot while trying to break up the altercation. 

He was taken to a hospital, but no details are available on his condition.

The ex-boyfriend who allegedly fired the shot escaped in a silver 2011 Cadillac CTS. He is wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Southeast Houston

In southeast Houston, police responded to a shooting call around 7 p.m. on January 17 in the 5900 block of Selinsky Road.

A vehicle pulled over at the scene after seeing police lights. Upon an investigation, officers discovered that a 1-year-old was shot in the arm and a 6-year-old was shot in the stomach.

Police rendered aid to the children until they were transported to Texas Children’s Hospital.

The two children, who are believed to be brothers, are expected to survive.

A third person, a man, was shot in the hand in another location.

Police have one person in custody, but the investigation is ongoing.

West Houston

On Monday, January 17, around 8 p.m., Houston officers arrived at the scene of 10100 Lansdale at the West Beltway. 

According to neighbors at the apartment complex, they heard gunshots and called 911.

Police found a man dead in the parking lot, with a bicycle next to him. They are unsure if the victim was riding it.

Authorities do not have much information or a motive for the shooting at this time.

East Houston

In east Harris County, two people died during what police believe was an attempted robbery on Monday, January 17.

Officers arrived at a school parking lot at the 1400 block of Peppertree. They had received calls regarding a shooting that occurred around 11:20 p.m.

Surveillance footage showed a man sitting in a pickup truck in the lot, and 15 minutes later, a dark-colored Chrysler sedan with three suspects inside drove up. 

The men began to shoot into the truck, killing the victim. A woman who had been in the truck with the man was wounded after being caught in the crossfire.

The suspects put the woman into their car and drove off, leaving her at 1500 block of Penn City Road around 11:40 p.m.

Her family and friends received texts informing them of the location where they could find the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe that she assisted with setting up the man in the truck.

Southwest Houston

In southwest Houston, a 25-year-old man is dead after his father, 65-year-old John Leans, shot him during a fight between the two.

Around 12:30 a.m. on January 18, Houston police arrived at 6222 Rollingbrook Drive to find the victim, Andrew Leans, with three wounds in his neck, chest, and stomach.

The father remained at the scene and admitted to shooting his son. Allegedly, the victim had a mental health condition. 

Another shooting in southwest Houston transpired the same night in the 14000 block of Fondren near Cangelosi Road.

Around 1 a.m., after receiving a call from a resident, Houston police found a man lying face down in the parking lot of an apartment building.

They discovered a car nearby with an open door and believe the vehicle may have belonged to the man. The victim was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police did not state whether the man lived in the apartment complex.
