Operation Kindness Humane Society, one of North Texas’ largest no-kill animal shelters, announced this week that adopters can “name their own fee” for cats and kittens every Friday throughout June 2026 as part of Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.
The flexible pricing initiative aims to clear space at the shelter and find homes for dozens of cats as kitten season peaks. Adoptions normally range from $25 to $125 depending on the animal’s age and medical needs, but participants can suggest any amount on Fridays in June.
Operation Kindness also partnered with Best Friends Animal Society on a broader June campaign to increase foster placements and adoptions across the region. Officials noted that June is traditionally one of the busiest months for cat intake due to the surge in unaltered stray and feral cats giving birth.
“Attention all cat lovers! It’s that time of year again — June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!” shelter officials stated in a recent update. The shelter is also promoting its foster program heavily this month to ease capacity pressures.
The Carrollton-based shelter, which has operated as a no-kill facility since 1976, provides medical care, spay/neuter services, and a pet food bank in addition to adoptions. It regularly partners with other North Texas organizations to increase live release rates.
All adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and basic wellness checks. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter or apply online in advance.
Residents interested in adopting, fostering, or volunteering can visit Operation Kindness’ website or call the shelter directly at (972-418-7297) to check current availability.
