Around 4 a.m. on January 20, a fire within an Arlington parking garage left a man severely burned.

Residents called 911 to report what they thought were fireworks or gunshots.

The parking garage, associated with the apartments at 848 East Mitchell Street, is close to the University of Texas in Arlington (UTA) campus although there is no official UTA affiliation.

Tenants were required to evacuate their apartments as firefighters contained the blaze.

Re-entry was allowed around 5:25 a.m.

The man was transported to a hospital for his severe burns, where he remains in critical condition.

Several vehicles were damaged as a result of the explosion.

Authorities are still unsure of how the fire started.
