Fort Worth Police arrested a suspect last week in connection with a violent carjacking on August 5 that left one man dead.

The suspect allegedly carjacked a Canales Furniture delivery truck in the 3800 block of Reed Street in Fort Worth.

Police arrived on the scene to find the delivery driver, Fabrico Rivera-Perez, 30, dead and the delivery vehicle abandoned just a few blocks away with furniture still inside.

Initially, Fort Worth police believed Perez had been shot but later revised that statement and said he may have died from falling or jumping from the truck.

Police arrested a suspect, identified as Carlos Valdez, 28, on August 23. He is charged with murder and is being held in the  Tarrant County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

On the day of Perez’s murder, Canales Furniture released a statement expressing its employees’ sadness and regret in informing the community of the death of their “colleague and friend,” who will be missed “more than words can express.”

The company said, “He was not just our coworker but part of the families who complete Canales Furniture.”

Canales Furniture staff asked for people to join them “in prayer for the peace of his soul,” adding, “May God give strength to his family members to cope with this huge loss.”
