The Duncanville High School boys basketball team has more than just a state championship to be proud of, they now have a framed Congressional Record Statement to show off too.

U.S. Rep Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Dallas) visited Duncanville High School earlier this month to present the championship team with the official document.

“Honored to present a Congressional Record Statement to the @Duncanville_HS boys basketball team for their state championship title! Go Panthers,” Johnson wrote in a tweet.

Duncanville ISD tweeted that the congresswoman gave the team the Congressional Record to commemorate their historic state championship win this season.

“Her encouraging words were motivation to continue representing the City of Champions,” the district wrote in a tweet

Duncanville won its second straight Class 6A title in March with a 66-53 victory over Austin Westlake.

“You played with heart and grit against a tough Austin Westlake team. And now you are the 2021 UIL 6A State Champions,” the district tweeted back on March 13.

The team took home the title in 2019 too. They were poised to do the same last year when Duncanville made it to the state tournament, but as Focus Daily News reported the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to all tournament play after the first day of games. The team was determined to defend their state championship title in 2021, making up for the year they lost because of the coronavirus.

Duncanville entered the postseason this year ranked second the state for Class 6A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and sixth overall in the nation by Max Preps, according to Focus Daily News. The team had to have victories over seven opponents in the postseason to take home the state title.

With the 2021 victory, the Panthers now have five state titles.
