Garland senior-to-be safety Chace Biddle pledged to SMU earlier this month.

The four-star defensive back just had two words to say when announcing his commitment to the program just 20 minutes from his home.

“Let’s ride,” Biddle Tweeted on July 7.

The web site Rivals reported that he chose SMU over 16 other schools, eschewing even national champion Alabama for the local Mustangs.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Biddle at one point didn’t think he’d play college football as his sights were set on track, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football reported.

“It’s kind of surprising to me because I really didn’t think I’d play football,” he told the publication. “Growing up, I had always been good at track. I’ve been more of a track guy. I really didn’t take football seriously…until when I got probably my second offer. I realized okay, maybe I have a shot at this. It comes as a surprise that football is taking me places.”

By committing to SMU, Biddle will continue to be teammates with Jordan Hudson, 247Sports reported.

Hudson, a four-star wide receiver, pledged to the Mustangs last month.

SMU strung together a 7-3 record in 2020, which was good enough for a Frisco Bowl invitation.

However, the game, which had pitted the Mustangs against UTSA, was cancelled because of COVID-19 concerns.
